Getting Food and Essentials Into the UK During the Coronavirus Pandemic

banner-INFO

Despite the current exceptional circumstances, we would like to reassure you that our vital freight shuttle services are operating to ensure food, medical supplies and essentials arrive safely in and out of the UK during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The current government advice against non-essential travel does not apply to international and domestic freight transport. Here at Eurotunnel Freight, we are closely following government guidelines regarding social distancing and take our health and safety responsibilities very seriously at both our UK and French terminals. The health and safety of freight drivers and our team members is our utmost priority. Along with government advice, we are checking specific information on cross-European trade to ensure adherence to health and safety responsibilities.

Changes to the UK customs border force processes during the coronavirus outbreak mean freight operators have had to adapt; however, governments and businesses are working together to ensure food, medical supplies and essential goods are entering the UK safely and in accordance with social distancing guidelines.

Working with our European partners to import goods

We are constantly monitoring the advice and restrictions in light of the coronavirus situation both in the UK and across Europe to ensure necessary food and essentials are imported into the country.

To help us keep up-to-date with all necessary developments regarding freight transport during this time, and effectively plan our operations, we are also monitoring the Freight Transport Association’s and Road Haulage Association’s international road transport services to check specific cross-European trade information provided to the International Road Transport Union.

Rest assured that we are working effectively with governments and transport associations across Europe to successfully and safely import the foods and essentials the UK needs during this difficult time.

Here at Eurotunnel Freight, we are doing everything we can to follow government coronavirus advice. We are working closely with authorities to ensure that our vital shuttle services are fulfilling our responsibility to import essential goods into the UK, as well as export them to our European partners.

As a core trading route between the UK and Europe, we would like to reassure you that we are committed to continuing our import and export of goods safely and successfully into the UK using our Channel Tunnel shuttle service.
