11/07/2017 - Shuttle Traffic for June 2017

In June 2017 Le Shuttle Freight transported 141,384 trucks, a traffic stable compared to June 2016, due to an unfavourable calendar effect with the Whitsun weekend being in June this year whilst last year it was in May. Since the start of the year, truck traffic has fallen slightly by 1%, due to the difficult weather conditions in southern Europe at the beginning of the year.

Passenger Shuttle traffic, which with 231,111 vehicles transported decreased by 7% compared to June 2016, was penalised by an unfavourable comparison with 2016 due to the UEFA Euro of Football France in June 2016. Passenger Shuttle traffic has decreased slightly since 1 January with 1,165,801 vehicles transported.

Groupe Eurotunnel SE’s half-year consolidated results will be published on Tuesday 25 July 2017 before market opening.

The traffic figures for the month of July will be published on Friday 11 August 2017 before market opening.

12/06/2017 - Shuttle Traffic for May 2017

In May 2017 Le Shuttle Freight transported 141,646 trucks, recording the best Truck Shuttle traffic for a month of May in its history, an increase of 3% compared to May 2016.

On Thursday 8 June 2017, Le Shuttle Freight established a new daily record with 3,822 trucks transported in 24 hours in the CAFO (Calais-Folkestone) direction, beating the previous record of 3,633 trucks set on 3 December 2015.

Since the start of the year, truck traffic has fallen slightly by 1%, due to the exceptional weather conditions in Spain at the beginning of the year.

Passenger Shuttle traffic has decreased by 4% compared to May 2016, with 212,930 vehicles transported penalized by an unfavorable electoral calendar in France. Passenger Shuttle traffic has decreased slightly since 1 January with nearly 935,000 vehicles transported.

The figures for the month of June will be published on Tuesday 11 July 2017 prior to the opening of trading.

28/04/2017 - Eurotunnel inaugurates new Freight Shuttles to meet traffic growth

Jacques Gounon, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Groupe Eurotunnel SE, accompanied by Xavier Bertrand, President of the Hauts-de-France Region, today inaugurated the first of three new, third generation Freight Shuttles.

With the boom in the digital economy and the concentration of cross-Channel traffic onto the shortest routes, particularly in light of environmental concerns, the market for Eurotunnel’s Le Shuttle Freight is set to continue its growth over the coming years. In response to this demand and to reach its objective of transporting 2 million trucks in 2020, Eurotunnel has invested €40 million to acquire three new, 800m long Freight Shuttles, each made up of 32 carrier wagons, three loaders and a club car for the truck drivers.

Made to order by WBN Waggonbau Niesky GmbH for Eurotunnel, and benefitting from the latest developments in technology to ensure energy efficiency, strength and reliability, these three new Shuttles will strengthen the existing fleet and bring an additional 20% capacity, enabling Eurotunnel to offer up to 8 departures per hour.

10/04/2017 - Shuttle Traffic for March 2017

In March 2017, Le Shuttle Freight achieved a new all-time record, transporting 151,245 trucks, an increase of 5% compared to March 2016, the month the previous record was set. Since the start of the year, almost 410,000 trucks have crossed the Channel on Eurotunnel's Shuttle Service.

Passenger traffic in March 2017 reduced compared to March 2016, with 159,001 vehiclescarried, heavily impacted by the negative impact of the calendar, with Easter, which generates high levels of tourist traffic, falling in April in 2017, as opposed to in March in 2016.

With a car1 market share of 64.6% for the Short Straits in February 2017, Le Shuttle achieved its best performance since opening in 1994. The increase in Eurotunnel Le Shuttle's passenger market share during the start of the year confirms the underlying attraction and strength of the service.

Revenues and traffic figures for the first quarter of 2017 will be published on Thursday 20 April 2017 before markets open. Figures for the month of April will be published on Friday 12 May2017, before markets open.

17/03/2017 - Eurotunnel welcomes 25 millionth truck

At approximately 04:00 this morning, Eurotunnel welcomed the 25 millionth truck to use its Le Shuttle Freight service since the service began on 25 July 1994

This 25 millionth truck, from the fleet operated by UPS, the express courier specialist, was carrying packages from Germany, many containing items such as clothing, shoes or electronics purchased the previous day via the Internet. The rapid growth in e-commerce, between 20-30% per anum, shows how essential the Channel Tunnel has become in the transport and logistics infrastructure linking the United Kingdom to continental Europe. Approximately one million e-commerce packages transit via the Channel Tunnel every day.

EY, in its research paper, "Economic Footprint of the Channel Tunnel", published in November 2016, estimated that goods linked to express and courier services transported through the Channel Tunnel have a value of around €30 billion per year and are responsible for 272,000 jobs across Europe.

18/01/2017 - New Security Control Centre for Eurotunnel

Eurotunnel today, 18 January 2017, inaugurated its new Security Control Centre on the French Terminal at Coquelles in the presence of Madame Fabienne Buccio, Préfète of the Pas-deCalais and Paul Booth, Deputy Director of Border Force, South East and Europe Region.

The decision to embark on this major investment was taken following the meeting on the site during the summer of 2015 between Theresa May and Bernard Cazeneuve who were at the time Home Secretaries for the United Kingdom and France.

The new building which has a floor space of 547m², is equipped with the latest technology and can accommodate all of the different law enforcement authorities present on the Coquelles site to strengthen cooperation on the ground between Eurotunnel’s own personnel and the two states.

The 20m² screen-wall in the new control room, which itself measures 171m², provides five video operators, the supervisor and coordinator, who are permanently stationed in the room, with an exceptional view over the 650 hectares of the site and the 30km of high security perimeter fencing via 570 static and mobile cameras equipped with both day and night vision.

The building has two living walls and a light well which help to reduce the use of electricity for lighting. In addition, the heat generated from the IT equipment is recovered and re-used for heating via and air recirculation system.


10/01/2017 - Shuttle Traffic for full year 2016

Freight Shuttle

For the full year 2016, Truck Shuttle traffic increased by 11% compared to 2015, with an alltime record of 1,641,638 vehicles transported. For the fourteenth consecutive month, December 2016 saw record-breaking monthly Truck Shuttle traffic compared to the corresponding period in previous years.

For the full year 2016, Passenger Shuttle traffic increased by +2% compared to 2015, with 2,663,865 vehicles transported. In December 2016, the traffic increased by +6% compared to the month of December 2015 confirming the upward trend observed over the last three months.

The Eurotunnel Group ‘s revenues for the year 2016 will be published on Tuesday 24 January 2017 prior to the opening of trading.

The traffic figures for the month of January will be published on Monday 13 February 2017 prior to the opening of trading.

12/12/2016 - Shuttle Traffic for November 2016

For the thirteenth consecutive month, November 2016 saw record-breaking monthly Truck Shuttle traffic compared to the corresponding period in previous years. Traffic saw a 6.8% increase compared to the month of November 2015, with 143,114 trucks transported, i.e the second best month ever (after March 2016). For the period January-November 2016, there has been an 11.6% increase in traffic compared with the same period of 2015.

Passenger Shuttle traffic increased by +5.5% compared to the month of November 2015, with 151,195 vehicles transported confirming the upward trend observed over the last two months. For the period January-November 2016, there has been a 1.5% increase in traffic compared with the same period of 2015.

The figures for the month of December will be published on Tuesday 10 January 2017 prior to the opening of trading.

29/11/2016 - New All-time Record for Le Shuttle Freight

As many trucks carried between 01 January and 25 November 2016 as in the full year 2015

Le Shuttle Freight, Eurotunnel’s truck carrying service continue its record breaking growth.

Between 01 January and Friday 25 November 2016, 1,483,741 trucks were transported, the same number as in the whole of 2015, which was itself a record breaking year. In the first ten months of 2016, Le Shuttle Freight grew by more than 12%, largely tperforming the market, which only increased by 5%.

14/11/2016 - The Channel Tunnel is a £91.4bn trade link for the UK economy

Represents a quarter of all UK trade with the EU. Report from EY assesses the economic footprint of the Tunnel and its role in the UK’s future growth.

The Channel Tunnel facilitates trade worth £91.4bn per year, representing a quarter of all UK trade in goods with the European Union, according to a new report from Ernst & Young.

The report, entitled Economic footprint of the Channel Tunnel fixed link1, assesses the economic contribution of the Channel Tunnel to trade and tourism, and its role in the UK’s economic growth. It finds that 30% of UK exports (£43.6bn) to the EU and 22% of imports (£47.8bn) from the EU depend on the speed ease and reliability of the Channel Tunnel, with exports through the Tunnel alone supporting 220,000 jobs in the UK.

10/11/2016 - Shuttle Traffic for October 2016

October 2016 saw record-breaking monthly Truck Shuttle traffic for the twelfth consecutive month, compared to the corresponding period in previous years. Traffic saw a 17% increase compared to the month of October 2015, with 136,562 trucks transported. For the period January-October 2016, there has been a 12% increase in traffic compared with the same period of 2015.

Passenger Shuttle traffic increased by +6% compared to the month of October 2015, with 195,351 vehicles transported (4,530 coaches compared to 4,844 coaches in October 2015). For the period January-October 2016, there has been a 1% increase in traffic compared with the same period of 2015.

September 2016 saw record-breaking monthly Truck Shuttle traffic for the eleventh consecutive month, compared to the corresponding period in previous years. Traffic saw an 11% increase compared to the month of September 2015, with 136,590 vehicles transported. For the period January-September 2016, there has been a 12% increase in traffic compared with the same period of 2015.

by Eurotunnel Le Shuttle Freight in 2016

Le Shuttle Freight, Eurotunnel’s Truck Shuttle service forges ahead and sets a new record.

Today, Tuesday 9 August 2016, Le Shuttle Freight transported its millionth truck for the year, almost one month ahead of the same milestone in 2015.

Since November 2015, Truck Shuttles have set new records month-on-month against the same periods in previous years. This millionth truck is yet another testament to the enduring dynamism of the business.
